CHASE JOHNSEY was trained at the Virginia School of the Arts under Petrus Bosman.  In 2004, he joined Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, and was the youngest dancer to ever join the company.  With ¨The Trocks¨, he has toured extensively through every major continent, and has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, such as Bolshoi Theatre, Chatelet, Sadlers Wells, Kennedy Center, Arsht Center, and many others.  In 2008, he was featured in Dance Magazine´s ¨25 to Watch.¨ In 2017, he was nominated by the National Awards of the UK for Best Performance and Best Male Dancer, in which he won the ladder.  He has been fortunate enough to dance most leading roles in the Trockadero repertory, and has received critical acclaim in the roles of Odette/Odile, Paquita, Kitri, and Flames of Paris pas de deux.  He looks forward to many more seasons with Trockadero.
CARLOS RENEDO is from Barcelona, Spain. He has danced in several musicals like Mamma Mia! and Victor Victoria. Carlos has performed in the Belgian opera productions La Traviatta and Nabucco, and has appeared on TV shows, including Disney Channel. He lives in New York City since 2008 where has had the chance to work with some of the most important choreographs, and has danced at The Metropolitan Opera House for three seasons in the productions of Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Madama Butterfly. He joined Les Ballets Trockadero in 2011, a ballet company that travels the world with a comedy ballet show. Carlos is also an aerial artist.

If you have any question please get in touch. Please do spread the word about this exciting opportunity – it isn’t often we get such talented individuals visiting our country! It’s a great chance for our students to be inspired by experienced dancers and also the opportunity for Carlos and Chase to see what our dancers are made of! It will be an inspiring series of workshops for all!

Get ready for three Sundays of fun!

New school year 2017/2018

Dear parents and friends of City Arts!

We hope you and your children enjoyed a nice summer break. Do your children start missing their dance classes?
Here is the new (and updated) schedule, back with ballet for all levels and ages, modern, jazz and hip hop. There is also a class that you may be taking together– African contemporary dance for adults and kids, which was last year offered by Lucas to adults only, but during summer camp we found that the children had equally enjoyed it. And of course, our acrobatics and theater-magics classes are back.

Depending on actual registrations and your feedback on the schedule, we may still decide for some modifications to the schedule and specification on the profiles and age groups addressed, especially for the theater, tap, modern and acrobatics classes. Please let us know when your child wants to attend a certain class but you don’t find the offered time suitable for your agenda.

At the current stage, we will have to cancel the following classes if they don’t get at least one more student within the next two weeks:

On Monday: Theater
On Thursday: Tap at 5:15pm
On Saturday: Acrobatics Advanced and Pre-Ballet

There is the option to keep these classes alive if parents are willing to pay a higher fee. Please get in touch with us if this would be an option for you.

We are still excepting registrations. So especially if your child’s class is at risk to be cancelled, please spread the word about City Arts’ classes so we will be able to keep them.

African contemporary dance: For each paying child one parent can join for free! Come and have fun with your kids!

You can always contact us through

Classes will start on 11th September.

A new exciting partnership

We are excited to announce that we are starting a partnership with MindLeaps. This is a project helping street children in Kigali to eventually attend school by habituating them to regularity and studying through dance classes.
The dance classes are often facilitated by professional dance teachers from abroad. The dancers supporting MindLeaps may also offer workshops at City Arts in the future, for kids, adults and teachers. For example we are expecting two dancers from New York with us later in October.

Fees 2017/18

Fees per class for the new term are now 6.500 RWF if your child takes one class per week, or 6,000 RWF if she/he takes more than one class.

However, you may decide to pay the same amount as last year (which was 7,000 / 6,500 RWF) for a good cause: The additional 500 RWF will be donated to MindLeaps. We are excited to tell you that we are starting a partnership with MindLeaps. You are welcome to donate any other amount of your choice. We hope you appreciate our initiative. Your child, by taking dance classes at City Arts will help a former street child getting into school!

Adult classes

For adult classes no registration form is required. The teacher will only ask you to sign a participants list and to leave your email/phone number to be able to contact you. Adult classes are paid in cash directly with the teacher.

Hope to see you on the 9th and to hear from you otherwise,
Your City Arts Team
