COVID-19 update

We hope that you’re well and that you have kept safe, well, sane and active during this difficult Covid-19 period.  We are missing all of our students and have been thinking of you all!

With the new updates from the Government of Rwanda (GoR), we want to update you with what this means for us all and our activities.  As a Committee, we have agreed the following:

  • We will have no classes until further notice as the GoR does not allow for schools and gyms to be open.  We will keep a close eye on the announcements and should sporting/group activities be allowed again we hope that we will be allowed to open.
  • Sadly, we will not be able to do our annual dance show at the end of May. However, we are considering doing a Christmas show.
  • In order to continue supporting our teachers and staff, many of whom are self-employed, we will continue to pay their salaries, which we know are much needed during this challenging period. If you would like to donate to support us in our efforts please get in touch with Francine (info@cityartskigali.rw).

We will update you as soon as we know when and how we can resume our activities at City Arts.

New school year 2019/2020

Welcome back to the new school year at City Arts!

Classes resume on September 9, 2019

We start the new school year on Monday, September 9, 2019. We encourage you to register your children in advance by email and to pay the fees in advance to our bank account. It is still possible though to register and pay during our Open House on Saturday, September 7, 2019, 10am – 2pm and also during our opening times (in general Monday – Friday 3.30pm-7pm) with Francine. But the sooner you register the better we can assure that the schedule can happen as proposed. Please be aware that a class needs at least 3 children to take place. Please read also carefully our Terms & Conditions  and bring or send a signed copy along with your registration.

Please have a look at our new schedule!

Breaks will be:

  • Christmas: 22/12/2019 – 05/01/2020
  • Easter/Memorial: 06/04/ – 13/04/2020
  • End of the year: 22/06/2020

Fees & Donations

We will keep the fees at the same amount as for the last year: a lesson is 6,500 RWF; if you register one child for more than one class, each lesson is 6,000 RWF. However, you may decide to pay a slightly higher fee (+500 RWF per lesson) for a good cause: The additional 500 RWF will be donated to help underprivileged kids to attend our classes: dance clothes and transportation when needed.

Calculation examples:

  1. Your child is registered for one class. The first term has 15 weeks. 6,500 RWF x 15 = 97,500 RWF. If you want to add a donation: 7,000 RWF x 15 = 105,000 RWF.
  2. Your child is registered for two classes. The first term has 15 weeks. 6,000 RWF x 2 x 15 = 180,000 RWF.  You might want to add a donation of 7,500 RWF -> 187,500 RWF.

We are looking forward to seeing you!

It is still possible though to register and pay during our Open House on Saturday, September 8, 2018, 10am – 2pm and also during our opening times (in general Monday – Friday 3.30pm-7pm) with Francine. But the sooner you register the better we can assure that the schedule can happen as proposed. Please be aware that a class needs at least 3 children to take place. Please read also carefully our Terms & Conditions  and bring or send a signed copy along with your registration.

Please have a look at our new schedule!

  • Easter/Memorial: 07/04/ – 14/04/2019
  • End of the year: 23/06/2019

Fees & Donations

We will keep the fees at the same amount as for the last year: a lesson is 6,500 RWF; if you register one child for more than one class, each lesson is 6,000 RWF. Your donations for MindLeaps for the last year were enabling students from MindLeaps to attend advanced Ballet classes at City Arts by covering the transport costs and helping with proper ballet shoes and clothes. We would be very happy if you could help us to maintain this cooperation by adding for example another 500 RWF per lesson to your payment.

Calculation examples:

  1. Your child is registered for one class. The first term has 15 weeks. 6,500 RWF x 15 = 97,500. If you want to add a donation of for example 7,500 RWF you pay in total 105,000 RWF to our account (or to Francine).
  2. Your child is registered for two classes. The first term has 15 weeks. 6,000 RWF x 2 x 15 = 180,000 RWF.  You might want to add a donation of 7,500 RWF -> 187,500 RWF.

General assembly on September 26, 2018

We warmly invite you to participate in our General Assembly on September 26, 2018, 7pm at City Arts. We want to take the opportunity to introduce to you the organisational structure of the school which was restructured to a NGO (in case you didn’t know). We would be very happy if some of you would volunteer to be part of our committee. Please feel free to contact us directly by email (info@cityartskigali.rw) or during the meeting if you are interested.

We are looking forward to seeing you!

Restart of Qigong classes

Zhineng Qigong is a science of life based on a system of knowledge and methods for physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. It builds on ancient Chinese traditions and on modern sciences. It is holistic and focuses on life and health. It develops human potential. It involves conscious training of the mind. It uses movement, mindfulness, meditation, breathing, and sound. Practitioners learn skills to improve the functions and abilities of the body, and for better life:

Health – Balance – Longevity – Joy – Mental Clarity – Improved Performance – Purpose

It is easy to learn Zhineng Qigong. It is for everyone irrespective of age or health status. Empower yourself with a framework of self-health management and personal transformation to attain your intention for balance and health.

Wednesdays from 8:30 to 9:50am, 24 Jan to 28 March 2018 at City Arts (Kings Hospitality Center, KG672 St #18, Kimihurura), only 5000RWF per lesson

The Teacher

Houda Baladi is a Zhineng Qigong teacher. She has come to Zhineng Qigong some 8 years ago out of curiosity. Because she experienced health benefits as a result of practicing Zhineng Qigong she stayed on and certified as teacher, and as Hun Yuan Qi Therapist. Besides, Houda has an MA in Participation & Social Change, and worked in context of social and community development. She also trained and worked as reintegration coach. Art & Craft has always been an area of interest for Houda since she was young. As a parent, She trained as part of school programme for parents to assist by working with small groups of pupils. Houda shared her passion wherever she lived. Houda’s diverse experiences and interests make her approach to teaching and coaching creative and eclectic. Houda has experience working with adults and children in areas of: Zhineng Qigong, art & craft, and in participatory development.
